IATF (International Automotive Task Force) is a body composed of the world's major automobile manufacturers (its members are Oems and national automobile industry associations representing suppliers). The group established five oversight offices, commonly referred to as the IATF Global Oversight (Office), which implement and administer the IATF 16949 certification program. IATF is the only accreditation body for IATF 16949 certification. Only certification bodies recognized by IATF are allowed to carry out IATF 16949 certification audit and issue certificates with IATF accreditation marks. IATF 16949 is the worldwide automotive quality standard. IATF has officially released a new version of the automotive industry quality management system standard IATF 16949:2016 in October 2016. Based on ISO 9001 standard, IATF 16949 standard further refines the automotive industry mass production and the special requirements of the original spare parts , so its certification is applicable to the worldwide production process of all kinds of automotive parts, demonstrating the organization's commitment to meeting customer needs, improving product quality and economic performance. The primary goal of IATF 16949 is to continuous improve with an emphasis on preventing defects and waste in the supply chain. For this reason, the standard ensures the components and safety systems of the vehicle meet customer specified requirements as well as applicable regulations. On the other hand, the standard promotes continuous product improvements at more favorable prices, as well as research and development of new components that enhance the safety of vehicles and their surroundings. For suppliers who supply directly to manufacturers, IATF 16949 certification is an essential requirement; For other suppliers, if there is a contract requirement of the OEM, IATF 16949 certification must also be carried out.
